About Yeshiva University

Yeshiva University is a private university with the main campus located in New York City, the most populous city in the US, its population exceeding 8 million inhabitants, and, also, the center of the New York metropolitan area, which is one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world.

Yeshiva was established in 1886 and traces its roots back to the Etz Chaim Yeshiva, which was a cheder-style elementary school that was founded by Eastern European immigrants.

In the past 122 years, the university has consistently expanded, today, comprising some twenty colleges, schools, affiliates, centers, and institutions, on six campuses in New York and one in Israel, offering its students educational programs, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Athletics

Yeshiva's athletic teams call themselves the Maccabees, and they compete in NCAA Division III, Skyline Conference, in various men's and women's sports.

Notable Alumni

Among Yeshiva's noteworthy graduates, we also find: Rabbi David Nesenoff, filmmaker and journalist, Daniel Kurtzer, former United States Ambassador to Israel and Egypt, and Sheldon Silver, NY State Speaker.
